3 Reasons Why Every Business Needs to Be on Social Media

Hey guys! Thanks so much for following our blog. It’s great to have you back. I wanted to take some time to talk about the importance of establishing an online presence for your business.
Over the last decade, social media has become increasingly important for businesses, especially small businesses. Individuals that are in the market for services like interior design or upholstery begin their search by browsing the internet for businesses like yours. This is why it is imperative that they are able to find your business and that you stand out among your competitors. If a prospect has been referred to you by a friend, he/she will most likely look your business up online to check out your work and get a feeling for your company.
That being said, you don't necessarily need a website. There are many social media platforms to choose from, and since we are working in a very visual industry, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Houzz are great options. Pick at least one and commit to it. If it were up to me, I would set up a Facebook account at the very least. Facebook is the biggest social network in the world! Why not meet people where they are already hanging out? On Facebook!

1. GET FOUND
If a prospect conducts a Google Search for businesses like yours and you do NOT have a website, a Facebook account, Google, Yelp, Instagram whatever…..the likelihood of them finding you without doing some digging is slim. They will however, find a list of competitors that have set up an account, and people like things to be easy so they may decide to look no further.
It is important to fill out your business’s contact information including your location, phone number and hours of operation. Simply adding your location information will get your business included in search results when someone performs a popular search like, “Upholsterers Near Me”.
Make sure to include your logo on your business page. After all, this is your brand identity. This is how you’ll be recognized. Set it as your profile or cover photo. Your logo and location are two ways that customers and prospects are able to determine that they are looking in the right place, because there may be more than one Bob’s Upholstery out there.
2. Show Off Your Work & Stand Out
As I mentioned, we work in a very visual industry. People want to see what you can do and what you can do for them. That’s why it is super important to upload quality images of your work. If you haven’t read my blog, “7 Tips for Taking Great Photos with Your Phone”, then take a moment to look it over. You don’t need a fancy camera to take great photos, just some quick tips and a little patience. So, take the time to show before and after photos or progress photos of projects that you’re working on. Your images assure the customer that you are an expert in your field and give you the opportunity to share your outstanding work with customers/prospects every day.
3. Stay Connected
Another great reason for having an online presence is to stay connected with your community. It is a place where you not only can share your work, but you can give tips, special business updates like sales and promotions and even ask your customers questions. Engaging with your customers and prospects humanizes your business. It shows them that you care about them, that you know what you are talking about and keeps you top of mind.
Customers and prospects will begin to “Like” and “Follow” your page. When they see something they like or that is relevant to them, they will engage. They may comment on the post, tag one of their friends, or even share the post, exposing your post to all of their followers. That’s one of the great benefits of social media. It gives you endless opportunities for exposure.
Make sure to post on a constant and consistent basis. Make sure it is relevant and valuable content. Everyone loves a “Doug the Pug” photo now and again, but those who are following your business page are looking for industry information or to keep up to date with your business and your work.
